Opal Creek Expeditions offers guided backpacking, rafting, and paddle trips for youth, focusing on backcountry skills, confidence, and environmental stewardship.
Summer youth expeditions are available for ages 10-17, with both 4-day and 7-day options in Oregon’s wilderness, and include all group gear and meals.
Programs launch from Salem with shuttle service from Portland, and expeditions take place in various Oregon backcountry locations including the Ochoco, Strawberry, and Elkhorn mountains.
About the activity:
Calling all girls and non-binary middle school adventurers! Get ready to climb high into the Cascades and explore ancient forests with Mt. Hood towering above. Camp among giant trees, swim in refreshing alpine lakes, forage for edible plants, and take in stunning mountain views. This expedition is the perfect mix of basecamp-style backpacking, approachable mileage, and exciting discovery, giving participants a chance to challenge themselves while bonding with other girls and non-binary peers. The adventure centers around Hunt’s Cove and finishes with a day hike to the Pacific Crest Trail, offering unforgettable sights and experiences in the heart of the Cascades!
