Opal Creek Expeditions offers guided backpacking, rafting, and paddle trips for youth, focusing on backcountry skills, confidence, and environmental stewardship.
Summer youth expeditions are available for ages 10-17, with both 4-day and 7-day options in Oregon’s wilderness, and include all group gear and meals.
Programs launch from Salem with shuttle service from Portland, and expeditions take place in various Oregon backcountry locations including the Ochoco, Strawberry, and Elkhorn mountains.

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness of Eastern Oregon! Perfect for adventurous beginners and middle schoolers, this backpacking trip takes you through breathtaking subalpine lakes, lush meadows, and towering conifers in a truly one-of-a-kind high desert alpine landscape. Middle School campers will spend the week learning essential backpacking skills, enjoying low-mileage day hikes without packs, and exploring these unique ecological areas. The adventure finishes with an exciting rafting excursion on the Deschutes River with our expert partners at eNRG, making this the ultimate mix of hiking, learning, and water-filled fun in the great outdoors!
