Get ready to hit the trail with Backpacking Fundamentals, the perfect introduction for young adventurers ages 10–14! Campers will learn all the essential skills for exploring the wilderness—everything from knots, hitches, and lashings to map and compass navigation, Leave-No-Trace principles, and land stewardship. Set out into the stunning Mill Creek Wilderness in Oregon’s Ochoco National Forest, hiking through sage and juniper, discovering hidden high desert streams, climbing rocky pillars, and exploring canyons. Along the way, campers will gain confidence in outdoor skills like cooking, water filtration, tent setup, and backpack packing, all while learning about the ecosystem and making new friends on this unforgettable adventure! Shuttle service departs from Portland to the start of the expedition.
