About the activity:

In this imaginative stop motion animation camp for kids ages 8–10, campers will explore the magical connection between visual art, dreams, and storytelling alongside teaching artist and filmmaker Sahar Al-Sawaf. Inspired by artists and filmmakers like Pipilotti Rist, Marco Brambilla, Salvador Dali, and Kurosawa’s Dreams, young creators will discover how imaginative ideas can come to life through movement and hands-on making. Campers will experiment with stop motion techniques such as pixilation, puppet animation, claymation, and paper cutouts using materials like clay, fabric, paper, and found objects, while learning the basics of storyboarding, character creation, and set design. Through collaboration, playful experimentation, and creative risk-taking, campers will build confidence and problem-solving skills, ending the week with a special showcase where they proudly share their dream-inspired animated films with friends and family.
