Northeast Community Center is a nonprofit fitness and community hub offering youth and family programs, fitness classes, and aquatics in a welcoming environment.

Each summer, Northeast Community Center hosts themed day camps for children ages 6–11 and specialty camps, including bike and adventure camps, for ages 8–12. Campers participate in activities such as crafts, games, swimming, and field trips, with accommodations available for neurodivergent children.

The center is located in the Hollywood neighborhood of Northeast Portland.

About the activity:

Our bike summer camp is the perfect opportunity for young riders to improve their skills and have a blast on two wheels! We take campers on daily rides through different parks and natural areas, allowing them to discover new trails and see the city from a unique perspective. As the week goes on and campers build confidence, the group bikes further each day. Expect to travel between 5 and 10 miles each day. Campers spend the whole day traveling to different parks, playing, then hopping on their bikes to the next park. Our experienced instructors teach campers proper bike handling techniques, as well as how to navigate different types of terrain and overcome challenges. In addition to daily riding, campers participate in activities designed to build confidence, teamwork, and street safety skills. At the end of the day, campers cool off in the swimming pool, play games, and make new friends. Campers must be comfortable riding their bike on neighborhood roads and be able to keep up with a group of similarly aged children. Participants will need their own bike, helmet, and bike lock.
