Willamette Sailing Club is dedicated to teaching small boat sailing and water safety to youth and adults, with a focus on hands-on learning and skill development.
Each summer, the club offers week-long sailing camps for ages 5-18, including beginner and intermediate classes for ages 8-11, with sessions led by US Sailing certified instructors.
Located on the Willamette River in the South Waterfront neighborhood of Portland.
About the activity:
Set sail on an exciting adventure! Our hands-on, game-filled approach makes learning the basics of small boat sailing fun and engaging for young sailors. Designed for ages 8-11, students take the helm of their own 8-foot Optimist dinghy, building confidence as they master boat handling and essential water safety skills. Before hitting the water, all sailors complete a 50-foot swim check while wearing a lifejacket to ensure their comfort and safety. Led by US Sailing-certified instructors and following the official US Sailing beginner curriculum, this program is the perfect way for kids to develop skills, gain independence, and fall in love with the sport of sailing!
