Mazamas is a nonprofit mountaineering organization offering climbing education, guided outdoor activities, and community events focused on mountain adventure.
Each summer, Mazamas hosts Adventure WILD! summer camps for children, featuring nature exploration, guided activities, and rock climbing for school-age kids.
Camps are based at the Mazama Mountaineering Center in southeast Portland, with activities also taking place at the Mazama Lodge on Mount Hood.
About the activity:
Five-day overnight summer camp at the Mazama Lodge where teens ages 11-14 take day trips to Mt. Hood crags and trails to develop outdoor climbing skills. With a 4:1 camper-to-instructor ratio, kids build climbing technique, camp craft, and outdoor stewardship while making lifelong friends. The final night campers camp under the stars and celebrate around the campfire. All meals and climbing instruction included. 2026 session: July 29–August 2 (8:30am drop-off, 3pm pickup on final day).
