Mazamas
Mazamas is a nonprofit mountaineering organization offering climbing education, guided outdoor activities, and community events focused on mountain adventure.
Each summer, Mazamas hosts Adventure WILD! summer camps for children, featuring nature exploration, guided activities, and rock climbing for school-age kids.
Camps are based at the Mazama Mountaineering Center in southeast Portland, with activities also taking place at the Mazama Lodge on Mount Hood.
About the activity:
Build real mountaineering skills alongside your child in this year-long Mazamas course designed for youth and their parents/guardians. Kids ages 8-15 learn rock climbing, snow travel, rappelling, and alpine techniques through evening classes at the Mazama Mountaineering Center plus overnight field trips to Mt. Hood and Smith Rock State Park. Graduates are qualified for Mazama 'A' and 'B' level climbs. Full course fee is $550. Scholarships available.
