Art of Makeup School

Art of Makeup School offers hands-on training in makeup artistry, including beauty, fashion, and special effects techniques.

Each summer, the school hosts in-person makeup camps for ages 12 and up, with sessions focused on both general makeup skills and movie/FX makeup.

Camps are held in the Lake Oswego and Portland areas.

About the activity:

This hugely popular makeup camp dives into the exciting world of special effects and film character makeup. Campers will learn how the realistic makeup tricks seen in their favorite movies and TV shows are created, then write their own story and bring it to life on screen. On the final day, each group will create a short film that is written, directed, and brought to life with makeup effects by the students themselves.

Throughout the week, students will explore a new set of skills each day. Day 1 focuses on creating bruises, cuts, gashes, and scratches. Day 2 introduces bullet holes, burns, and broken bones. On Day 3, campers learn how to design sickness, dirt, blood, tears, and other character effects, along with an introduction to prosthetic application. On Day 4, it’s time to make a movie as students write a short story that uses their awesome special effects makeup skills.
