Nestled on the scenic banks of the Willamette River, just minutes from downtown Portland, WSC is the only small boat sailing club in the city, dedicated to the thrill of dinghy sailing and racing. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced sailor, our US Sailing-certified instructors offer top-notch Learn-to-Sail classes throughout the spring, summer, and fall, welcoming over 500 students each year! With programs for all ages and skill levels, WSC is the perfect place to embrace the adventure of sailing, connect with a vibrant community, and enjoy unforgettable moments on the water in a safe, fun, and family-friendly setting.

About the activity:

Set sail on an exciting adventure! Our hands-on, game-filled approach makes learning the basics of small boat sailing fun and engaging for young sailors. Designed for ages 8-11, students take the helm of their own 8-foot Optimist dinghy, building confidence as they master boat handling and essential water safety skills. Before hitting the water, all sailors complete a 50-foot swim check while wearing a lifejacket to ensure their comfort and safety. Led by US Sailing-certified instructors and following the official US Sailing beginner curriculum, this program is the perfect way for kids to develop skills, gain independence, and fall in love with the sport of sailing!
