The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in Portland, Oregon, is a leading science center offering interactive exhibits, hands-on learning activities, and educational programs for all ages. Visitors can explore diverse exhibit halls, including the Turbine Hall, Life Sciences Hall, and Earth Science Hall, each featuring engaging displays and laboratories. OMSI also houses the Kendall Planetarium, one of the most technologically advanced planetariums in the Pacific Northwest, and the USS Blueback Submarine, a retired U.S. Navy submarine open for guided tours.

About the activity:

Join a team of professional filmmakers from NW Documentary and fellow campers to create your own documentary! Get hands-on experience using professional equipment and editing software as you interview experts, write narration, and bring your film to life. Each year’s films are made in collaboration with local organizations and shared for real-world impact. The experience wraps up with a special screening at OMSI’s Empirical Theatre for family and friends. Beyond filmmaking, explore behind-the-scenes work in laboratories, field research, and local arts and industries. Alongside film production, enjoy classic summer camp fun, including games, outdoor activities, and creative teamwork. This camp is perfect for self-motivated campers ready to collaborate on an exciting project. With moderate physical activity, the camp takes place at the Coastal Discovery Center at Camp Gray in Newport, Oregon, with transportation to and from OMSI. Check-in is at 7 a.m. on the first day, and pick-up is at 5 p.m. on the last day.
